ATTENTION: Gambella Flooding Seasonal flooding has been the worst anyone can remember, with over 46,000 people affected in the Gambella area. It is no wonder that clean water is the most requested item in the villages where PIA works. In Pochalla County (southern Sudan), 95% of residents consume unsafe drinking water. PIA has joined hands with African churches to train and send out local missionaries to those tribes who have never heard about Jesus Christ. In a recent trip report, PIA's Director, Paul Lindberg, had this to say about the African missionaries, "They are committed, passionate, and producing good results. I was impressed with their calling and joyful pursuit of bringing the Gospel to these areas...They are doing a great job even while experiencing the pains of loneliness and difficulties because of their faithful work to bring good news to these remote areas. The cost of supporting an American missionary family in Africa is over $6000 a month! PIA can support 100 national missionaries for $6000! That is a wise investment. Have you ever wondered where much of today's charitable giving is going? Eight out of every ten dollars given by Christians are in the hands of American Christians. 87% of US money given by Christians is spent inside the walls of the church. 12% is spent on telling the Gospel where it has been told and 1% on missions. Only .05% is spent on the 10/40 window, where 1.5 billion people have yet to hear the Gospel for the first time. Africa has been ravaged by war, famine, and disease for decades. Christians in Africa often have little hope, little power and little voice.
